Prutting & Company has partnered with Joeb Moore + Partners Architects again, this time to work in coastal eastern Connecticut.  This project is a restoration and renovation of a World War II residence. Some of the existing elements such as a large granite wall running through the center of the building pose an interesting juxtaposition with contemporary materials such as corrugated metal siding (shown in picture to left).  Its coastline location also creates constraints which makes this project a unique construction challenge.  See below for renderings of the house from Joeb Moore + Partners.

In other news, Prutting & Company is currently working with TsAO & McKOWN Architects  on a residence located in Pound Ridge, New York.  This project’s expression of materials at varying scales requires meticulous construction technique, promising an elegant result.  Prutting & Company looks forward to another project in the area with KieranTimberlake expected to start next spring.

Over the years, Prutting & Company has built several glass curtain walls.  With several more projects involving large glazing on the horizon, Prutting & Company is continually researching new technology in the field.  Recently, the Swiss Company R & G Metallbau AG has developed a new, large-surface frameless system for operable units.  Check out their website at the link below for more information, as well as photos of projects featuring this system.  www.sky-frame.ch

As Prutting & Company continues to build its experience in contemporary home building, one name in kitchen design is becoming more prevalent.  Eggersmann, a European-based manufacturer, is making a name for itself with distinctive material palettes.  Their hot rolled Stainless Steel and Phyllite Stone caught the eye of New York Spaces Magazine in their 2012 Kitchen & Bath Buyer’s Guide.  Click the image below to view the article.

Useful Vocabulary For Building Watchers

Dave McGeehan of Milford, CT remains in his long held role as company General Manager.  In Dave’s many years of experience in the construction industry, his overall knowledge base makes him invaluable for value engineering and preconstruction services, as well as overseeing action in the field.

Frank J. DiMicco of Mt. Kisco , NY now holds the title of Chief Financial Officer.  Frank’s previous experience in running his own company in the service industry has made him a great resource for overall business financing.

Jack Truman of Stamford, CT has been named company President.  Truman, at only 29 years old is a graduate of Ithaca College, and received his MBA from UCONN Stamford.  In addition to improving the efficiency of the business end of the company, Jack is also a project manager running several local jobs.  His smooth coordination between the office and the field, while maintaining good client relations shows an organizational wisdom beyond his years.

Prutting & Company, primarily a residential building and remodeling firm, is owned solely by David & Deborah Prutting and has been located in New Canaan since 1979.  Starting as a small shingling business, Dave & Debbie have advanced this company to become a well-known traditional and contemporary builder working with prominent architects on jobs spanning the reaches of the Westchester County area and beyond.

In other news, Prutting & Company’s business spans to the West Coast with an office located in Portland, Oregon.  This branch, headed by Andrew Friedman, is now expanding their office by moving to a new location at 5915 SE Division Street, #2, Portland,OR97206.

After the recent completion of a residence in Austerlitz, NY, Prutting & Company has teamed up with world-renowned Toshiko Mori Architects to build another contemporary home nearby in Ghent, NY.  This residence displays a spatially compelling revisualation of programmatic roles splitting the house into four separate buildings:  A Main bedroom volume, the Cooking Pavilion, the Exercise Studio, and the Guest bedroom volume.  Also typical of Mori’s work is a sensitivity to site context – the house is buried in a wooded area with glass curtain walls opening to a clearing with a beautiful view of the valley.  For more details, please see the gallery below for construction photos by Michael Biondo.

Prutting & Company has always shown an interest in new technology within their projects.  Having built several LEED-accredited homes – including his own Silver-rated contemporary home in New Canaan – Dave Prutting, the owner is always on the lookout for new tips.  Most recently, Architectural Record published articles in its February issue entitled “Legislation Sparks Innovation” and “Fixtures of Efficiency” featuring some intriguing new products.  See pages below.
